Finding Balance with Wise Mind: A Simple DBT Skill That Changes Everything


At NEBHSI, we believe in making mental health tools simple, powerful, and easy to use in your everyday life. One of our favorite DBT skills is called Wise Mind—and it’s something we all have inside us.


So, what is Wise Mind?

Wise Mind is the balance between Emotion Mind (where we act based on our feelings) and Reasonable Mind (where we think logically without emotion). Sometimes, we react out of pure emotion, or we try to avoid our feelings completely. Wise Mind is that calm, centered place inside of you that listens to both your heart and your mind—and helps you make the healthiest choice.


Why It Matters

When we’re dealing with stress, addiction, or mental health challenges, our emotions can feel overwhelming. Wise Mind helps us slow down, take a breath, and respond instead of react. It’s where clarity and peace meet.


Try This:

Next time you’re faced with a hard decision or big emotion, take a moment and ask yourself:

 🧠 What would my Wise Mind say right now?

 Then, take a deep breath—and listen. You might be surprised by how much wisdom is already inside of you.
